Mohanlal's Success secrets

The secret of Mohanlal's success is the larger-than-life character that he has done in innumerable films over the years. No wonder then that half-a-dozen products sell purely on his brand equity, mainly owing to his large number of fans. For the common man, Lal `ettan' is a doting son, loving husband, caring elder brother and a super-hero. Says writer-director and actor Sreenivasan who was largely responsible for creating so many memorable characters for Mohanlal: "Our friendship dates back to the early Eighties and he is one of the most flexible actors on the Indian screen. For the viewers most of their dreams are fulfilled through the characters that Mohanlal play so convincingly in many of his films, which have made him click with the audience."
However, Mohanlal does not agree that he has fallen into an image trap as many point out.
He asks: "In `Udayananu Tharam' did I have any image? It is always the story and script that do wonders to a film and nothing else matters."

Barack Obama is about to be tested as never before. But things haven't exactly been easy for him up to now. If George W. Bush was born on third base, Obama was a charter member of the knothole gang: on the outside looking in. His father abandoned the family when Barack was 2, and he and his mother left for Indonesia four years later. At age 10, he moved to Hawaii to live with his grandparents, who sometimes relied on food stamps. And yet that bumpy road delivered him to the presidency of the Harvard Law Review, to the side of a first-lady-in-waiting who is already being compared to Jackie Kennedy, and into a family portrait that includes two of the brightest-eyed little girls ever to cross the public stage. Oh yeah, and it allowed a guy with the middle name Hussein to take over for a president who was obsessed with ridding the earth of Saddam. What does Barack Obama know that the rest of us don't? WH contributing editor Peter Moore met with him last August on his campaign plane to find out. Read on for Obama's flight plan Click here

5 Success Tips You Never Learn

I’d like to share 5 lessons I’ve learned, that I wish I’d learned in college — or much earlier on in my business career. These five things have had the biggest impact on my success so far in my small business:

1. Stop Being a Control Freak
Learning the fine line between giving direction and delegating is one of the toughest things for me. My natural tendency is to want to do it all myself. Of course, I can’t

 2. Build Incrementally
Start small, spend as little as you can, and build on early successes. Quickly dump the stuff that doesn’t work out.
If you take this approach, your risks of going down the wrong path and spending lots of development time and money on offerings that fail, will be minimal.

 3. Think About a Business Problem the Last Thing at Night
You see, your subconscious mind works while you sleep. Thinking about a business problem the last thing at night is how you harness your subconscious to work on that problem.
Sometimes I literally will wake up with the solution — or easily think of several potential solutions the next day.

4. Treat Your Computer Systems Like a Factory Production Line
For millions of business owners like me, our computers are the biggest set of business equipment we have — and they’re crucial. Without a computer system, I cannot operate my business.

5. Pretend you Have an Accounting Department
Everybody in business hears the standard advice about the need to track and understand your financial numbers. Unfortunately, that kind of advice is easy to give, but hard to follow.

Success tips for Richard Branson

Richard Branson founded Virgin in 1970 at the age of 20, and he hasn’t looked back.
He’s the only entrepreneur to have built eight separate billion-dollar companies in eight different industries — and he did it all without a degree in business.
Don't do it if you don't enjoy it."Had I pursued my education long enough to learn all the conventional dos and don'ts of starting a business I often wonder how different my life and career might have been," he writes in his new book, Like a Virgin: Secrets They Won’t Teach You at Business School.
We’ve compiled some of the best tips from his book here

Mark Zuckerberg's 5 Secrets to Success

If, after he dropped out of Harvard, Mark Zuckerberg had found fame and fortune as a major league baseball player, sportswriters would have had a field day writing about the college dropout "phenom" who had revitalized the sport.
As it turns out, Zuckerberg made a better choice when he turned his talents to churning out the code that became the heart and soul of Facebook.
On the business page, such phenoms are called "billionaires."
One of the fastest-growing companies in history, Facebook has become an essential part of everyday social life, a conduit for forging bonds with friends and family and a mechanism to promote what we love. And now, with the introduction of Facebook Graph Search, those on Facebook will be able to sift through photos, people, places, and business pages. For details Click here

7 Life Changing Keys to Success

Success does not belong to a select few; success belongs to “you,” if you’re willing to go after it.
Success is never handed out, you must take it, but you don’t take it by force.  You take success by becoming a successful person internally.  When you succeed on the inside, by taking on the thoughts of a successful person, the results will show on the outside.
Today I want to talk about seven life changing keys to success; these concepts will alter your life if you implement them.

Seven Life Changing Keys to Success:

1. Do and Dare

“The person who gets the farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The ‘sure-thing’ boat never gets far from shore.”
–Dale Carnegie

Are you daring to do the impossible?  There should never be a time in your life when you’re not attempting something impossible.  It is the impossible that stretches you and shows you what you can become.
Do and dare, get out of your comfort zone and stretch yourself.  Stretch the amount of work you do, stretch your expectations, and stretch your imagination.

2. Double Your Failure Rate

“Would you like me to give you a formula for success? It’s quite simple, really. Double your rate of failure. You are thinking of failure as the enemy of success. But it isn’t at all. You can be discouraged by failure or you can learn from it, So go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because remember that’s where you will find success.”
–Thomas J. Watson

If you want to succeed, you need to fail.  No one succeeds with just a handful of failures.  You won’t be the first person to succeed, after only failing three times.  You need to fail, and fail, and fail; failure is the path to success.  You stumble until you walk.  It is through stumbling that you learn how to succeed.  Your stumbles prepare you for success.

3. Use Your Will

“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will.”
–Vincent T. Lombardi

Another word for “will” would be “desire.”  To succeed you must desire to succeed more than you desire anything else.  Successful people aren’t stronger than others, and they aren’t necessarily anymore intelligent than others, but they have more desire than others.  They have a burning desire to see their goal realized.  Do you have that same burning desire?  Without desire, you won’t have the motivation to accomplish the goal.

4. You need Determination and Commitment

" Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s the determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.”
–Mario Andretti

Are you determined, one person determined will accomplish more than a thousand people who are just interested.  You have to have the determination of a bull dog.  You have to latch on, and refuse to let go.  Desire, determination and commitment will strategically position you to succeed.

5. Excellence is Required

“No one ever attains very eminent success by simply doing what is required of him; it is the amount and excellence of what is over and above the required that determines the greatness of ultimate distinction.”
–Charles Kendall Adams
Are you providing excellent service?  To be the best, you must provide the best service.  You must give your customers what they can’t get from anywhere else.
How good is your service?  Can it be duplicated?  Is it excellent?

6. Vision is Necessary

“The vision that you glorify in your mind, the ideal that you enthrone in your heart – this you will build your life by, and this you will become.”
–James Allen

To succeed, you must ponder success.  Only through pondering success will you create the desire to make success a reality.  You must have a clear vision of what you are about to achieve.  This desire must consume you.  If the desire consumes you, it will one day be realized.

7. Go To Success

“Success doesn’t come to you, you go to it.”
–Marva Collins

Success won’t fall in your lap; you have to go after it.  You have to chase it down.  You have to want it more than anything else.  A lazy person won’t succeed, only those who are willing to work; those who are willing to “go to it.”
Are you willing to go to success?  Do you have a clear vision, do you have a burning desire, are you willing to fail, if you are, you are well on your way to success.

How to Prioritize

Have a lot to do and running out of time? Then learn to rearrange things in order of priority. Here's how:
  • Choose the scope. It’s easier to prioritize if you focus on a single area at a time. Choose homework, housework, sorting files, cleaning the cupboard, etc.
  •  List tasks randomly. Try to keep the list to a dozen tasks, if possible.
  •  Mark the importance of each task. Consider the value of each completed task. Mark each task with H for high, M for medium or L for low.
  •  Mark the urgency of each task. Consider an upcoming deadline. Mark each task with H for high, M for medium or L for low.
  •  Mark the effort required for each task. Consider the time needed to complete each task. Mark each task with S for short, M for medium or L for long. A task that requires high concentration should be rated with a medium effort.
  •  Compare all tasks. Highlight the most important and urgent tasks that require the least amount of effort.
The list may look like this:

Priorities Worksheet
Task Importance Urgency Effort Priority
Check smoke alarm batteries High Medium Short
See Rocky Horror Picture Show (again) Low High Medium
Pay utility bills High High Short
Vacuum under fridge Medium Low Short
Get haircut Medium High Medium
Redecorate bedroom Medium Medium Long

  1. Make a decision.
  • Group the tasks with the highest importance and urgency and least amount of effort.
  • Decide which ones need to be done first based upon upcoming deadlines.
  • Tasks of low importance and urgency can be deferred.
Recopy the list to look like this:

Priorities Worksheet
Task Importance Urgency Effort Priority
Pay utility bills High High Short 1
Check smoke alarm batteries High Medium Short 2
Get haircut Medium High Medium 3
Vacuum under fridge Medium Low Short 4
Redecorate bedroom Medium Medium Long 5
See Rocky Horror Picture Show (again) Low High Medium 6

  • Rearrange the list. Reconsider if not enough time was allowed to complete a task or if a due date is about to arrive

  •  Alternate tasks. Alternate a homework list with a housework list. You may need a break from sorting through your files or cleaning the cupboard.

  •  Cross tasks off the list as you complete them. This gives you a sense of accomplishment. Reward yourself to spur further motivation.

Steve Jobs: 7 Secrets to His Success

How is it that a college dropout, who landed in his parents' garage and who was once kicked out of his own company, became one of the world's foremost innovators?
Consultant Carmine Gallo, the author of "The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs: How to Be Insanely Great in Front of Any Audience," has made a career of sharing the success secrets of Steve Jobs. Below, Gallo lists the seven ways Jobs managed to triumph in the face of daunting circumstances and how you can do the same.

1. Do What You Love, No Matter What It Happens to Be
"Don't settle ... as with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it," is what Jobs told Stanford University graduates in a commencement address in 2005. Gallo says cook-turned-talk show host Rachael Ray embodies this advice.
"Rachael Ray did what she loves," Gallo says. "She was giving cooking lessons at Macy's, for nothing! She was giving free cooking classes because she loved what she did."
2. 'Put a Dent in the Universe'
"Put a dent in the universe simply means that you have to have a big, bold, clear, concise vision. I like to say that your vision should -- fit in a Twitter post," Gallo says. Gallo referred to John F. Kennedy's "man on the moon" declaration: "We will put a man on the moon and return him safely to Earth by the end of the decade."
"John Kennedy, in 1961, had a clear, concise vision. If Twitter had existed that day, he could have tweeted it," he says.
3. 'Say No to 1,000 Things'
Simplifying his business was key to Jobs' success, Gallo says.
"In 1997, when he returned to Apple, Apple was close to bankruptcy. He took 300 products and condensed them to 10, within a two-year period," he says.
Simplicity also extended to Jobs' personal style, says Robert Cringely, who worked with Jobs since 1977.
"In latter years, he decided he would wear the same outfit every day, so that he, you know, didn't have to think about it, no one had to think about it, there were no decisions," Cringley says.
4. 'Kick Start Your Brain' by Doing Something New
Doing new things helped Jobs, in the word's of Apple's own slogan, "think differently."
"The inspiration for the Apple store came from the Four Seasons. That's why when you walk into an Apple store you will not find a cashier. You'll find a concierge. Walk to the back of the store and there's a bar. It doesn't dispel – dispense alcohol, but it dispenses advice," Gallo says.
5. 'Sell Dreams Not Products'
Jobs famously explained that the iPhone was not just a phone but a lifestyle.
6. 'Create Insanely Great Experiences'
"For Jobs, it wasn't just about selling 29 million iPads this summer but entertaining the customer at the same time," Gallo says.
Whether you run a multi-billion dollar tech company or a pizza parlor, innovation, he says, "means creating an experience for your customer."
7. 'Master the Message'
Gallo says Jobs wasn't born a naturally gifted presenter -- he was visibly nervous during his first live television interview in the 1970s -- but he improved over time.
"In 2007, he actually gave what I consider the greatest presentation I've ever seen -- the introduction of the iPhone," he says.
Others can learn from Jobs' secrets, Gallo says. Consider, he says, asking yourself what Jobs might do in a given situation.
"When you start asking yourself what would Steve do, it's a high bar to reach," he says. "But it's worth reaching."
